We will have H1N1 Vaccine Soon!
We are now completely out of our Seasonal Flu vaccine. Regarding our H1N1 supply, we spoke with the Johnson County (KS) Health Department Friday regarding our order. We should have our supply in about 10 days. As soon as we have it, we’ll post on our Facebook Fan page.
Are You Confused About Whether or not to get the Flu Vaccine?
There is so much information on the Internet about flu vaccines – are they safe or unsafe? Do they contain mercury or not? Thimerosol? Other toxins?
While we are not public health experts, we do know that there is almost always at least a grain of truth on both sides of these issues. While the vaccine we purchase for our customers is mercury and thimerosol free, many doses are not. The difference? Pre-filled syringes do not contain mercury or thimerosol. Multi-use vials do contain these ingredients as preservatives.
We work in the health and wellness industry. This includes a broad range of health care providers and enthusiasts, most focused on wellness. We often hear laypeople discussing the problems related to flu shots, usually with little or no knowledge of the issue other than something they have read on a blog.
We also have customers that swear by their flu shots every year. They never ask questions about the vaccine or what version of vaccine their provider is giving them.
We say educate yourself! If you start with a philosophy – one way or the other, you are certain to find evidence to support it on the Internet. While there is certainly some evidence that may raise concern for some people about the vaccine, it is also true that there are pregnant mothers suffering from H1N1 right now that are surviving on respirators in hospitals in the Kansas City area (and I’m sure this situation is replicated throughout the world).
We can’t tell you what to do. What we can do is try to provide information about availability of the vaccine. The rest is your responsibility.
WE WILL HAVE H1N1 VACCINE
We received word from the KS Health Department yesterday that we will be getting a supply of the H1N1 vaccine. We’ll send out a note as soon as we get our shipment.
If you are not in the Kansas City area, you may want to check with your providers NOW as the vaccine is starting to be distributed.
The Most Complete Information yet from the CDC on H1N1
The information in this link is the best resource yet on who should get the H1N1 vaccine first, amounts of vaccine that will be available and prioritization of providers who will get access to the vaccine. This article addresses the target groups for the first wave of the vaccine, some instruction to providers on who to provide vaccine to as well as other instructions that you may find of value.
At MedExpress, we spoke with our health department on Monday, the 5th. They submitted our order for H1N1 vaccine to the State Health Department. The State of Kansas anticipates they will be distributing the vaccine approximately the 3rd week of October.
As soon as we have our supply, we’ll let you know.
